HOW DID YOU BECOME AN ARTIST

I have always worked with form and color, mostly with my dad when I was a child. He always worked with jewerly, stones, paintings, etc. and he thought me to look at the colors in the nature. He was born in Britain and trained to be a jeweler by my Norwegian grandfather. I loved to see him work, at home or in the factory. It was natural for me to go to London to study art.

TALK ABOUT YOUR WORK

Photography has been part of my work, ever since I started to look for my own form of expressions. I search for different cameras, as painters look for paint, .. they are my toolboxes.  I search and I experiment with form, color and technique, from boiling polaroids and removing the image to image transfers, cinema-film with drawing on the negative, multi exposures done on the spot to  mixing old analog cameras with new digital technique.  Then I try to paint with the light, using this "toolbox" as part of the expression in my work.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO EMPHASIZE ANY MOMENT IN YOUR ARTISTIC WAY

Moving to Buenos Aires has a definite change in my way of seeing myself and the world around me. This has changed the emphasis and the style of my work. Having my exhibition at the Masottatorres gallery was a milestone for me to get moving in the art-world in Argentina.

WHO DEFINED THE BEST YOUR WORK. WHICH WORDS HE/SHE USED

Damián Masotta for my exhibition "las calles,- beyond the surface". Here are some paths:

"Linda es Noruega,  su mirada del mundo parte de allí. Ella mira un barrio del sur del mundo en una ciudad maravillosamente esquizofrénica que sigue buscándose. Linda nos da su visión que podría ser la de una extraña pues no nació aquí, ella viene de lugares muy distintos y de costumbres diferentes, su ver tiene algo que parece ponernos frente a nosotros mismos y eso la hace cercana. Sus fotos nos dicen que quizás fue ella la que ha sido tomada por Buenos Aires, como tantos, como miles desde que nos llamamos República Argentina. De alguna manera su mirada es un espejo, en estas fotos uno se siente descubierto cuando se cambia la ropa. La Noruega que nos mira ha encontrado algo y se ha hecho parte de lo que vio, sin saberlo, sin quererlo quizás.

Los trabajos juegan con cierta ambigüedad, la misma que se puede sentir frente a la belleza de un anciano, verlos genera la duda de si ésta es posible, entre esas arrugas, entre ese desgaste. Uno duda sobre qué es lo que mira. Su mirada es moderna, es poética, es decidora porque no quiere mostrar las cosas ni como se ven ni como se deberian ver, las muestra más allá  de lo que éstas manifiestan. Todo lo que  está ahí es atisbo de lugares posibles, de sitos donde el pasado permanence anudado al presente y armando el futuro, son sitos de muertos, de vivos y de gentes que nunca existirán."

"Linda gives us her regard that could be the regard of a stranger, because she wasn't born here, she comes from places that are very different, with very different habits. Her regard has something that seems to place us in front of ourselves, and this brings her closer. Her photographs tell us that perhaps it has been her the one taken by Buenos Aires, like so many others, thousands, since we call ourselves Republica Argentina. In a certain way her regard is a mirror, in these photographs one feels caught when changing clothes. The Norwegian that looks at us has found something and, unknowingly, perhaps unwantingly, has become a part of what she saw.

The works play with a certain ambiguity, the very same one that one feels facing the beauty of an old person, one doubts. Her regard is modern, is poetic, is saying, because it doesn't want to show the things as they're seen, neither as they should be seen, it shows them one step further of what is apparent. Everything that we see is a glimpse of possible places, of places where the past remains tangled to the present and preparing the future, places of dead people, of the living, of people that will never exist."

WHICH ARE YOUR PLANS AS AN ARTIST IN THE FUTURE

At the moment I am working on new ways of expressing my life and surroundings in Argentina. After the project, Las calles,- beyond the surface wich was exhibited in Masottatorres and in Norway, I worked and exhibited at Festival de la luz, a series of portraits and self-portraits. Although my personal work is in Buenos Aires, I still live parts of the year in Norway and will use this base to call on art-communities in Europe. 

In the future I hope to participate more in the Latin-American artworld, as my knowledge of the culture and the language improves. Right now I am working on a new exhibition that will take place in Norway in 2009. 

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ANYTHING MORE

Now, I am no longer a stranger in Buenos Aires, but have become one in my own country, Norway.
Tangled between two worlds, I am curious to see how it will show in my work.
